Chick-fil-A Changed My Life

Many of you know my love for Chick-fil-A. I really really really love Chick-fil-A. One of my life goals is to teach my future daughter or son to say “My Pleasure” instead of Thank You…yeah that’s a real goal! Why? Because Chick-fil-A changed my life. I worked there for over 6 years and I continue to use so many life principles with me well beyond my years in the chicken coop.

When I was 15 years old, my parents started talking to me about getting a job. I probably rolled my eyes and didn’t believe them. Well…they were serious. If I wanted to put gas in a car one day, I was going to be earning money to make that happen. In February 2006, I interviewed at Chick-fil-A with the general manager and I was so nervous. I had no idea what I was doing. After the first interview, I got a call that they wanted me to come in for a second! The owner/operator asked me questions like “Why do you want to work here? What are your career goals?” I clearly remember saying that I wanted to make money to save up for an Apple MacBook Pro Laptop. I guess it worked because they hired me.

Starting my first job at 16 changed my life. The first time someone complained to be about how I messed up their Chicken Sandwich with no pickles, add lettuce and American cheese…I thought I was going to get fired. This is real life though. Interacting with real customers in a business environment.

Are you not working? You may think that you don’t have time to work, but I think you can find time. Even if it’s 10 hours a week…get a job. Be prepared that it won’t be sunshine and rainbows 100% of the time, but oh so valuable. You will learn real life skills (the good and the bad) that you’ll carry with you forever. Get a job and make an impact!
